Self-defence is a right that everybody is entitled to. Every individual has the right to defend him/herself with whatever force that they deem reasonable against any treat or violence that is directed to them. Since each is the first line of defence against anything that is trying to harm them, it is always important that one is prepared before the actual attack takes place. This coupled with the knowledge that the police cannot protect all of us at each given time, leaves us with the responsibility of protecting ourselves and our loved ones. To ensure this, we should have the best defence weapon that is available in the market.

 

Pepper Spray/Mace

Those of us who have encountered with pepper spray a couple of times can attest to the fact that, a direct hit from it can be very debilitating and thus can be very effective. But it is also important to note that this best weapon cannot be 100% effective as a determined attacker can be effective still even after being hit by pepper spray. The best thing to do is not to stick around after you have sprayed somebody with it. Call for help or run away after immediate application. One major advantage of it is that most canisters can spray a distance of up to 10-15 feet.

 

Tactical Pen

A tactical pen usually targets an attacker’s eye, neck or face and thus can work as a very effective deterrent to any attack hence giving one sufficient time to get away or seek help. But one major downside of it is that for it to be effective one has to be in close contact with the attacker hence one running the risk of being overpowered by a strong attacker. This one is advised to feign submission before they go into attack.

 

Penknife

As the name already implies, this is a small knife that is disguised inside a pen. On one side is a functional writing pen, but on the other side, when the top is removed a narrow sharp knife can be revealed. This is a kind of weapon that your attacker is not expecting hence very effective.

 

Stun Gun or Taser

This is considered one of the best defence weapon that one can use in subduing an attacker. Even though there are large differences between the two, there use is similar. For a stun gun, you will need to hold it in your hands, and you will require direct contact with your attacker for it to be effective. But for a taser, you need not to be very close to the attacker as it can release wires that attach to the body hence stunning them down to the ground.

 

Handgun

It is argued that this is the ultimate equalizer hence can be considered as the best self-defence weapon. But like all other self-defence tools, it is important that the user gets some training so that they can effectively use the weapons.
